I’m going to keep this simple: I am sick of red on the red carpet. All of these women look lovely and I am not going to nitpick. Well…maybe a couple: Kate, we’ve been through this. Your dress is too long. Let’s get that fixed by the Oscars shall we? Lea and Adrianne, hire a tailor. That a designer would let you out the door in an ill-fitting dress is beyond me but, alas, they did. A curse be on your houses (gasp!) Marchesa and Pamela Rolland. I’m embarrassed for you.
Back to red on the red carpet. I had food poisoning Emmy weekend and I am so glad that I did not tear myself away from my bed to see the red carpet pre-show. When a half dozen women wear the same color on the carpet, no one stands out. Your “efforts”, if we can call it that, look like an after-thought. And, honestly, I can not understand why red is so popular on a RED CARPET. That’s akin to performers wearing black on a black stage. Why blend in to the background? I can hear you now, “Gasp! But Jennifer, it’s hard to ignore a woman in red. There’s a song and everything!” (For you youngsters, Google “Lady in Red”.) My answer to that: After all the work you put into choosing a dress and getting ready, do you really want to wind up in a photo with five other women in a color popularity contest?
Ladies, red is easy. It is fail-safe. It is trite. Please stop. Stand out. You’re too lovely to fade into the carpet.
L to R: Nina Dobrev (Donna Karan), Kerry Washington (Zuhair Murad), Lea Michele (Marchesa), Kate Winslet (Elie Saab), Adrianne Palicki (Pamella Roland), Sofia Vergara (Vera Wang)

I LOVED Sofia Vergara’s dress. Hers was my favorite. Yes, she always does the drapey gathered fabric thing, but it really works for her. I also liked how the color wasn’t quite red but more of a deep coral.
