I’m sure by now many a gal has seen Miu Miu’s glittered and bejeweled sneakers. On the off chance that you have not, behold:

Fun yes? I’m quite partial to the glitter and studs myself but not so much the price tag ($500+). So when I stumbled on a great DIY to recreate a pair of these for yourself, well of course it’s a must share. Before I share the link, I do have one critique. I know what you’re thinking, “Seriously J, can you not get through a post without doing so?” Of course not. It’s what I do.
There are two things in the DIY that prevent it from looking as polished as the designer shoe:
- Shoelaces - do yourself a favor and notice the shoelaces in the above image. They aren’t white. When you decide on your color scheme, purchase a new set of laces that are an appropriate match. They’re cheap and will make a big difference in the finished piece.
- Eyelets - “The eyelets? You’re critique-ing the eyelets?” Yes, yes I am. The designer shoes don’t have white eyelets ladies. Get yourself a bottle of metal paint and a brush, and paint them to match the sneaker. Over time the paint will wear with the continual friction of the laces against the metal. You’ll need a touch up but, honestly, these are so trendy you won’t be wearing them come next spring.
Now if you’re really interested in making a good copy, I would paint the entire shoe with a same color base coat prior to adding the glitter. The more white you can prevent peaking through, the better the end product will look when compared to the designer’s original. You can accomplish this with fabric paint for shoes made of canvas or a light coat of spray paint for the vinyl (don’t forget to tape the soles first). So make yourself a cheap pair and invest your monies elsewhere. You’re welcome.
