Get Off My Red Carpet
{Fashion Critique}: Grammys 2012, Part Two

More Grammy red carpet fun. You know what to do.

Katy Perry, Elie Saab

Smurfette. The gown is gorgeous (you know I love Elie) but it seems to me that someone is trying to deflect divorce talk by stumping us with an out of character choice. However, if her hair was her natural color, she’d look beautiful in this.

Corinne Bailey Rae, Christian Siriano

I love, love this gown. In fact, I want to get up close so I can mentally break down that hem. I do love your wild hair Corinne but you can’t swoop wild hair to one side without venturing back to the 80s. Oh and lose the shoes. Why do starlets insist on looking like they have enormous feet??

Amber Rose, Versace

On the television this gown looked beautiful on Amber but in photos it’s not working quite as well. And you know the rule: dress for photos because that is how the world will see you. Her skin tone clearly has yellow undertones and the camera flashes amplified it making her look somewhat sallow. A brighter lip would have gone a long way to balancing the color story here - it’s too orange. And I don’t like the shoe color choice. P.S. Never wear shoes the same color as your skin tone. You look like you have high-heeled feet and that is just a gross image.

Cyndi Lauper, Jean Paul Gaultier

58 years old world. 58! Cyndi can wear whatever the hell she wants. Like she would give a shit anyway right? Girl is rocking that two-tone hair. Who else can do that at 58? My only complaint here is the jacket swallows her small frame and the sleeves are freakishly long. Everything else works.

Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz

A Star Trek cocktail waitress with early James Brown hair? I like it and don’t like at the same time - mostly due to the proportions which are way off on this dress. This dress put a spotlight on Alicia’s long torso making it appear that much longer and looking like she has short, stubby legs. And the ankle straps on those shoes aren’t helping. Horizontal lines break up the body - she visually shortened her leg with those shoes. (See also, Amber Rose regarding shoe color.) Swizz, you are killing it in that purple jacket. I’m loving it. But lose the purple bow tie will you? Black would have been the obvious choice here.

Julianne Hough, Kaufmanfranco

This looks is really great when Jennifer Aniston does it because she does it better. Don’t let Ryan ever dress you again.

Adam Levine and Anne V

Hooker Glam was clearly a trend at the Grammys. Yes Adam, we know you’re dating a model. Could you at least buy her a whole dress next time? You look fabulous however. Love the striped shirt and that shade of blue on the tie. Get. your. hand. out. of. your. pocket. when. walking. the. red.

Taylor Swift, Zuhair Murad

Taylor, you’re a sweet girl and I love that you love high fashion - really I do - but you look like a 10 year old who raided mommy’s closet. This is an age appropriate FAIL. The dress is wearing YOU instead of the other way around as it should be. In 8-10 years you can wear gowns like this but for now, dress like you’re 22 mmm-kay?

Nicki Minaj, Versace

Oh Nicki, you do not disappoint do you? Did you call Lady Gaga and ask her if you could be the egg moment this year? ‘Cause Little Red Riding Hood dating the Pope is definitely that.
