It’s the most wonderful time….of the year! Oscar day loves! That most glamorous of days in all the year for the movie industry. I was dreaming the other day, if I were walking the red, what ever would I wear. So many choices, so many beautiful gowns. Let me tell you, I had no idea how difficult a challenge this would be. There is much to consider: season, age appropriateness, lights, camera flashes, how will it translate to film and print, even the color of the carpet itself. And I’m only dreaming! I can’t imagine the stress this could bring to the talent actually walking that glorious stretch of red. So what did I ultimately choose you ask?

The Dress
Why Dior of course!

I looked at so many photos of gowns. My only dress rule was no solid red or black. I didn’t want it to blend into the carpet and I didn’t want details to get lost in print or video, hence no solid black. I kept going back to this Dior gown from the Spring 2012 collection. Are those pleated tulle ruffles not incredible? I adore detail and, for me, this is the perfect balance of retro glamour and contemporary styling.
The Jewelry
Chrysoprase and diamonds!

I love the combination of green, black and white but was searching for more of a blue-green for Spring. Chrysoprase is such a joyful green and paired with diamonds it has that casually elegant flair that I adore. I could wear these Irene Neuwirth earrings just as easily with denim as a gown. And the ring…

is a vintage Art Deco lovely from the 1920s. I *had* to have something vintage and Art Deco is my favorite design period.
The Shoes
Since the shoes would mostly be hidden by the full skirt of the gown, I wanted to keep the shoes simple but still have an elegant shape to the heel and vamp. And no platforms of course (you know how I feel about those)!

No straps. No crazy platforms. Just simple and lovely and feminine. Thank you Mr. Blahnik.
So have you ever dreamed about what you would wear to walk the red on Oscar day? Do tell!
