Get Off My Red Carpet
Fashion Critique: Pretty, Pretty Pale

I have a crush on this Prada. Actually I’m crushing on this whole look. It’s beautiful. The simplicity is divine and I really like that Gwyneth matched the handbag so precisely. Anything else would detract. The only complaint I can find (and let’s face it, I’m getting really nit-picky here) are those ridiculous platforms - you know how I feel about those. However, I have to say they don’t bother me due to the fact that they’re mostly covered. I love how this dress is a near match to her skin color. And who says fair skinned women can’t wear the palest of peachy pink? She’s certainly proving that they, indeed, can!

Bringing me to the second interpretation of the same color:

Jessica Chastain in Elie Saab. Also beautiful but I’m not crushing. Why? For some of the same things you will continually see me complain about over and over on this blog: posture, support garments, and hemlines.

Slouching, without a doubt, ALWAYS ruins a look ladies. Keep those shoulders back. I know it’s hard. So many of us sit hunched up at a computer all day. I’m guilty of it, too. Look at the result between two beautiful women above who have nearly identical skin and dress color. Gwyneth’s posture is picture perfect and she looks confident and radiant. Jessica looks pretty but you can see she’s clearly lacking something. In this instance it appears that improving her posture would also improve the geography of her bustline. When you slouch, the breasts move south. Keep the girls lifted with good posture and if they’re still low, get a bra with a proper fit. Lastly, that hemline is sad. SAD! Designers, I know celebrities borrow these dresses but sending them out in trip worthy hemlines is a no-no. If the dress skirt has to be lifted to walk, the length is incorrect. Period. This hem is easily 3 inches too long. A proper hem length can visually improve height (apologies, no solution to altering height permanently) and give the wearer a more statuesque appearance. Celebrities aren’t models so stop sending them out in model length gowns.
